Strategy, Process and Management Consultancy for Humanitarian Actors

The management of change processes is vitally important in the area of international cooperation: The ability to meet current and future challenges and to design its own organizational future with a realistic and prospective view is a crucial success factor for lasting effects.

The following aspects are particularly relevant for Organisations working in complex situations and fragile states:

  • Strategic planning in scenarios: Humanitarian Action requires a clear objective and a management system which is flexible enough to respond to the numerous challenges within a highly complex situation and which take also into account the interventions (and effects) of other organisations. Strategy planning for humanitarian actors has to be pre-emptive and demand always an alternative scenario for implementation.
  • Overview about relevant processes: An organization has to learn which core processes are relevant and require attention. Knowing the relevant processes means knowing how to position the organisation and its intervention in an effective and efficient way. Only on this basis an appropriate steering of the intervention is ensured.
  • To be effective in alliance with others: Humanitarian action includes coordination and cooperation with others. Therefore, an organisation has to have a good cooperation management system which answers the following questions: Which actors are involved within the interventions and to what extent?  Which actors have to be informed or even consulted? With whom could synergies be established? Humanitarian action is no stand-alone activity: they are designed complementarily to other interventions.
  • Knowing and using its own structure: An efficient and result-oriented internal cooperation ensures successful humanitarian interventions. The organization as such benefits a lot of the fine-tuning of the internal cooperation: idling action between different teams or delays are prevented.
